The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) is pleased that UK users of Snapchat can opt out of gambling advertisements. The platform has been working closely with the BGC for the past year.
The BGC have been working closely over the past years and with this move, Snap aims to give consumers more control over the advertisements.
In doing so, they want to ensure that customers have more control over the ads they see. The United Kingdom Gambling Commission also oversees the advertisements that are made. This means that checks are made on advertisements and information provided. In order to obtain and maintain a licence, an online casino must provide honest information to the player.
In 2020, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) released an updated code of conduct for advertisements. BGC members had to ensure that all ads on social media are targeted at users aged 25 and over. An exception is if a platform can prove that ads are precisely targeted to anyone over 18.
