Westminster City Council has unanimously backed Genting Casinos UK’s plans to turn the iconic Trocadero into a two‑storey casino and restaurant complex capable of hosting up to 1,250 guests. The project will see the former Bubba Gump restaurant and Opium nightclub reimagined under a single, streamlined design. standard.co.uk

The venture carries an estimated price tag of £40 million and could deliver approximately 350 jobs in hospitality and gaming. Though concerns were voiced about late‑night drinking and possible disorder, council officers noted that casinos operate under strict licensing, with no significant legal change from its former nightclub use.
Genting is seeking to relocate its existing Crockfords Club licence to this venue and is awaiting approval for 24‑hour operations. The proposal emphasises responsible management, including operational planning to minimise noise, crowding and other local impacts.
